    Introduction

“Lent is a sacred treasure hunt.” In this season we do not give up something up for the sake of giving something up – but to make room for something wonderful. This year we use a mixture of scripture & poetry to lead us into our silent prayer. The scriptures reflect those selected by the Revised Common Lectionary, which we use at Morning Service.

Safeguarding of children and adults at risk

St Columba’s adheres to the Church of Scotland Safeguarding Policy Statement 2010 Ensuring a Safe Church for All

The Church of Scotland has a deep concern for the wholeness and wellbeing of each individual. Through its Congregations, working together with the Safeguarding Service and statutory agencies, the Church seeks to safeguard the welfare of all people who come into contact with the Church and its services. The Gospel proclaims that it’s the responsibility of everyone within the fellowship of the Church to prevent harm, be it physical, sexual or emotional, and we will always seek to reduce risk. The Church’s commitment to safeguarding reminds us that God cares passionately about the welfare and wellbeing of all people.

The Church’s key safeguarding message: If you suspect or witness harm or abuse, or it is reported to you, you must immediately report it to your Safeguarding Coordinator or line manager.

St Columba’s Safeguarding Coordinator contact details can be obtained through the Church Office, the Ministers or the Session Clerk.

Further details of the Church’s theology of Safeguarding can be found in For of Such is the Kingdom of Heaven: General Assembly Report, May 2009.

Church of Scotland Safeguarding policies, procedures and practices underpin the Church’s Safeguarding Act which was passed by the General Assembly in 2018. The Act and guidance are on the Church of Scotland website here

Sunday 20th March 2022, Third Sunday of Lent

    Introduction:

As we journey through Lent our Gospel readings remind us that Palestine 2000 years ago was a land under foreign occupation. In earlier days the Psalmist lived through tumult and war. This year war and terrible cruelty have overshadowed our Lenten journey and shaken our own continent. Our calling as Christians is to work for peace, not simply the absence of war but peace with justice for all people. Let us begin by praying for discernment to see what is right and go on to pray for peace in our own hearts and in the world.

    Introduction

Lent is a sacred treasure hunt.” In this season we do not give up something up for the sake of giving something up – but to make room for something wonderful. This Lent we use a mixture of scripture & poetry to lead us into silent prayer. The scriptures reflect those selected by the Revised Common Lectionary, which we use at Morning Service. Once the silence begins let yourself be drawn to a particular verse, or even just a single word. Try to savour that.
