Sunday 6th March 2022, Lent I
Congregational Prayer Resources For Lent
St Columba’s, Pont StreetIntroduction
Lent begins with a reminder of our mortality. In some traditions the Ash Wednesday custom is to mark the forehead with the sign of the Cross. As the ashes are daubed the priest says: “Remember that you are dust, and to dust you will return.” It is an honest stripping away of illusions. It is the overture to a season of serious reflection on ourselves, our lives, our priorities. Lent’s purpose is not to plunge us all into gloom and depression, but rather to allow a new light into our self-reflection during its 40 days.

Lent and Easter 2022
Lent and Easter 2022
Echoing Jesus’ forty days in the wilderness, the season of Lent is time set aside to prepare and deepen us for the eventual embrace and celebration of Easter. Lent is the opportunity to enter profoundly into the mystery of Christ’s life, death and resurrection; a time to reassess what is important; a time to consider what Christ means to us now. Jesus’ hard road to the Cross is offered as reminder, strength, and challenge for the hard roads which we, or our loved ones, may need to travel. Whatever your tradition of prayer (or none), familiar, or not, with St Columba’s or the Church of Scotland, we hope you will discover something to inspire you, encourage you, and help you to pray – resourced, resilient, and rejoicing for the pilgrim road ahead.

In this holy season of Lent,
may the mind of Christ be in us.
Enable us both to examine our conscience
and to inform it;
both to examine our faith
and to deepen it;
and to watch and pray,
as Christ would have us do,
so that we recognise temptation
and spurn it. Amen.

Hall Hire
St Columba’s Church of Scotland is based in the heart of Knightsbridge. Excellent tube and bus services make the church easily accessible. The building was designed by architect Edward Maufe who created an extraordinary space for church and community to come together.
Please note that we are unable to offer hall hires on Sundays or Bank Holidays.
All hires include use of the hall, tables and chairs as well as crockery/cutlery for kitchen hires.
Hirers are responsible for cleaning and tidying after themselves. An extra charge will incur for any cleaning required from our team after the event.
