Blending a unique array of approaches to silence, inspired by experts in their field, the inaugural Festival of Silence at St Columba’s invites you to explore the silence and discover the unspoken. Offering a mixture of immersive workshops and music-framed communal silence, the day offers something for those already familiar with the fascination of silence and those curious to explore new terrain. Opportunities on the day:

  • Speech without words.  Rowan Tolley, theatre producer, conducts a masterclass on communicating without words.
  • Sketching into silence. Sharon Brindle & the Langham Sketch Club, London’s oldest sketching group, give guidance for live drawing.
  • Turning into silence – movement to prayer. Church of Scotland minister, Rev Pauline Steenbergen combines body, breath, and meditation.
  • Profound Simplicity. Internationally renowned Scottish poet, Kenneth Steven, offers a pre-recorded soundscape of poems, read and curated by the poet himself.
  • Silence in the Sanctuary. Thirty-minute periods of communal, music-framed silence in the sanctuary.

Tickets via Eventbrite. Day ticket £10 – permits entry all day.
